Grey Owl is an award-winning goat cheese from Quebec, Canada, produced by Fromagerie Le Détour in the Témiscouata region. Made from pasteurized goat's milk, this surface-ripened cheese is instantly recognizable by its striking dark vegetable ash rind and pure white interior.
When young, Grey Owl has a firm, chalky paste with a fresh, tangy, lemony flavour. As it matures, the texture becomes softer and creamier just beneath the rind, while maintaining a clean, slightly salty finish with subtle vegetal notes. The cheese is named in tribute to Archibald "Grey Owl" Belaney, the renowned Canadian conservationist who lived near Lake Témiscouata.
